TEMPLE TALK

by Karen Donmoyer

I have been a member of Hope since 2000.  When my youngest daughter Kelsey was old enough to join Sunday school, I started to become actively involved in Hope.  This is something my mother did at our Church when I was growing up in Sunday school.
Both of my girls attended the Hope Christian school program, which is primarily the reason why I came to Hope.  Living in Jackson, I did have the choice of three Lutheran churches in the area. But having a wonderful visit from Pastor helped to make my decision a much easier one to make. And to my surprise one Sunday morning, there he was. Pastor Tupy.  Pastor Tupy was the one who actually confirmed me when I was in the 8th grade and that is when I realized, I was
home.
I have the honor of sitting on our Church Council representing the Education aspect of our Congregation. Being able to teach our children and experience their curiosity, their insightfulness, and even their sense of humor, has been very rewarding too me, and I am glad that I can look out for our children's best interest.
But, to me, there is a down side to our Church Council and it is in the responsibility of controlling the financial health of the Congregation. I can honestly say that before Council I never knew what was involved in keeping this Church and all the programs (and there are many) up and running. I never read the financial statements that the Treasurer issues until it was handed too me at my first Council meeting. What an eye opening experience reading that report was for me!
This Church is my home and with that comes the financial responsibility of keeping my home the best it can be. I am here today to tell you that I am pledging another three years to the Renovation Fund and even if you have or have not pledged before, reading these financial reports  will give you the information you need to see how your contributions would be worthy to our cause and to our Mission.  John Drager, our Treasurer, and Dave Lynch our Financial Secretary, are always available to answer any questions you may have, or you may speak to any of the Council members

Thank you!
